His oath was administered by lawyers Miguna Miguna and TJ Kajwang as his supporters cheered him on.

However, his running mate Kalonzo Musyoka, who was to be sworn in as the deputy president, was not present at the venue.

MISSING CO-PRINCIPALS

Also not present at the venue were the other Nasa co-principals, Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetangula.

“Kalonzo Musyoka is not here with us. But he is together with us in this. He will be sworn in later. You will here more from us,” Odinga told his supporters.

Mr Odinga said he would circulate his speech to the media and an announcement of what next would be made in due course.

The short ceremony then ended at 2:50 pm with Odinga’s last words being, “Mungu aibariki Kenya” (God bless Kenya).
